How Much is Texas Automotive Sales Tax?

Here in Texas, the sales tax for a new or used vehicle is 6.25 percent. This tax rate is the baseline for the state overall and certain counties and cities add on their own specific tax rates on top of the 6.25%.

Texas Title and Registration Fees
In the state of Texas, the starting registration fee for a vehicle is $50.75 plus an additional $1 to verify the vehicle’s insurance, bringing the total to $51.75. At the time of registration, owners must also pay the state portion of their vehicle’s inspection fee. Additional fees may be charged depending on the county you are in and in Mclennan County you can expect to pay at least $80 for registration according to the county website. Mclennan County’s vehicle title fee is $28.
